TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS.
.The Railway Department could improve the tram service between Palmerston and Dannevirke and vice versa ~by shortening the time: occupied in covering the distance. Travellers complain loudly of the length of time they are compelled to wait at some of the stations on. this route,.and this.is not in every case due to shunting work, but merely because a rate of speed has been maintained which would cause the train to .arrive at its destination earlier than provided for in the time-table arrangements i were no lengthy stoppages ordered. An experience of this .description fell to. the passengers by the train from Dannevirke to Palmerston on Saturday evening, and with the. cold weather prevailing the lengthy stoppages at several stations, including Woodville, Ashhurst and Terrace End, were anything but enjoyable. The.delay, at. Ashhursfc was. particularly irritatingj the train reifiaining at that station for over fifteen minutes. If the Department could shorten the time on this route the travelling public; would appreciate the concession, with the additional fact that it would tend to popularise the service.
