i The formation of ah Independent Labour Party in New' Zealand is exciting much comment in political circles: That , there is great dissension in the ranks of Labour has been manifest for a considerable time past; and despite a recent warning by ;Mr Seddon one section W seceded and will act on independent b'nes 'in the future. This.is a development which the Government do not l-elisb, for they see in it an element of danger to their Party, with the probability of their power being materially lessened, if not destroyed, in the near future. The Independent Labour Party has been created as the result of dissatisfaction with the policy of the Government, and as the latter owe their position to the support they have received from Labour, it naturally follows that they are anxious as to the outcome of the new movementIt is. just possible that the formation of the independent party will wreck the Government at the next election, as the former will nominate their own candr dates, so. that those selected to run'in th£ interests of Mr Seddon will not receiye anything Klie the support they . could have counted upon under'the old order of. i things. We have not the slightest doubt that the Opposition will endeavour to profit by the division in the forces of Labour, and the next election should result in their, ranks being largely swelled, with the probability of a-work-
ing 'majority,
