Fraser moved a new clause dealing with tied houses, which was lost on the voices. Mr_Jas. Allen moved a new clause providing for. a fresh poll in Bruce, which was lost by 30 to 26. On the motion of Mr Massey, a new clause.was added making locarauthori.ties who receive a portion of license fees liable to contribute to the cost of the election of Licensing Committees. ■ . Mr. Keid moved a new clause requirj ing a bona fide traveller to sign a declara-tion,-but it was lost on the voices. _ Mr Jennings. moved a new clause giving electors in. the " lOng Country ". the right of voting at tho next election on the question whether licenses should or should not be granted in that district. Lost by 35 to 24. . On the motion of Mr. T. Mackenzie, a new clause, was added fixing five miles (instead of three miles) as the distance a traveller must have covered before he is entitled to. drink on Sunday.?:. A motion by Mr . Willis to make 10 p.m. the hour of closing all round the colony was lost on the voices. : . A new clause, moved by Mr Taylor, to limit each hotel to 'one bar was lost by 43 to 18.. ; .' ' ■' Ma Taylor moved a new clause to prohibit the employment of barmaids.— Lost by 48 to 11. Mr Bollard moved a new clause empowering licensing committees to grant NTew Zealand wine licenses irrespective of the result of the local option poll. ■ This was carried by. 39 to 21. Objection was raised that this was a catch vote and eventually the clause was struck out on the understanding that the Premier would consider the advisability of bringing down a clause dealing with New Zealand wine licenses. . • ■ A new clause was added providing that, in the event of " no-license " being carried in Wellington, no liquors shall be sold in the Parliamentary, buildings. The Bill completed its progress through committee at 4.25 a.m. and was reported with amendments. Mr Seddon said he proposed to re- • commit the Bill next afternoon- to consider certain clauses. ■The House rose at 4.35 a.m.
