LONDON, September 22.
Orders for steel cars for the Baker-street-Waterloo tube railway have been placed with New York firms. British firms are unuble to make tbem, ■ but there are , English firmß ■ now laying down the plant necessary. The New Zealand and Australian Land Company: has declared a dividend of .5 per cent and a. bonus of 2 per cent. It will devote £45,000 to the reduction of the deficit on land sales, and £40,000 to the Contingency Fund to meet exceptional losses on live stock in the future.
The South African Chartered Company is, issuing a million shares for general Rhodesian purposes. It has been arranged for half, if necessary, to be underwritten!

An unprecedented event has created a sensation. An Alabama Grand Jury sanctioned an indictment against twentysix whites at Huntsville for lynching and a number of lesser offences. They" aIBO, recommend the impeachment of the mayor, sheriff and chief of polioe for not preventing the lynching, The German allied steamship lines have raised the westward steerage rate from Britain to America, but reduced the fares to and from Austria and Hungary. The White Star and American lines have raised the Atlantic steerage rates.

' = ROME, September 22. The Anarobiets and Socialists had lively altercations at the Frepthought Conference on the question of separating Church and State. Some opposed Church and State alike. Others were tolerant on all matters of faith. Some urged deliverance from capitalist oppre9sion as first and religion aftorwards.
