Stoney Creek School.
Presentation to Sir Stagpoole.
Yesterday afternoon Mr Stagpoole, headmaster of the Stoney Creek School, who is shortly to be married, was the recipient of gifts from the Committee and the children. At 2 p.m. the Committee and pupils, haying, assembled in Mr Stagpoole's room, Mr "Vaughan,! Chairman of the Committee, addressed i those present. He said it gave him great i pleasure to perform his task that after-1 noon.. Under the tuition of Mr Stagpoole the school had progressed exceedingly well. He considered, the last report was sufficient evidence .of ■ the splendid way the school' was conducted. He rejoiced to .hear that Mr Stagpoole was about to-be married, and he asked him !to accept gifts from the mistress (Miss Powell) and the pupils and also a slight token of the esteem in which he was held by the committee. .Miss Powell and the pupils gave an oak and silver salad dish, suitably engraved, and the committee a silver biscuit barrel and an oak and silver butter dish, both suitably engraved. Mr Stagpoole, in returning thanks for the gifts, said he had the welfare of the school at heart, and he would always strive to advance the interests of ■ the pupils.
Three cheers were given for Mr Stagpoole. •
Afternoon tea was provided and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent.
