The Stock Market.
Abraham and Williams, Ltd.
Abraham and "Williams, Ltd., report as follows:—
Since last week sales have been held at Dannevirke, "Woodville, Pahiatiia, Colyton, Palmerston North, and a clearing sale at Shannon on account of Mr "Whitehead. ,
At Danhevirke last Friday we had. a crowded yarding of cattle and a few pens of sheep. Yearling cattle sold well under the hammer and a good demand existed for 2 and 2-i-yr steers. Good conditioned bullocks were in request at late rates, as also were forward heifers showing quality and condition. Late and poor conditioned stock wasxlull.
At "Wooclville on Monday a fair yarding of cattle came forward, which met a dragging sale. Very little business resulted.
At Pahiatua, on Tuesday* an exceptionally heavy yarding of cattle came forward, not one third of which was advertised. The yards were taxed to their utmost,' several lots haying to be accom- ' niodated in the adjoining paddocks and sheep pens. Only a few pens of steers were offered, the yai-ding comprising practically dairy stock. Business .at auction was brisk, in several instances prices secured were greatly in excess of vendors' anticipations, while other lots made reasonable values. An almost total clearance was made r mostly under I the hammer, A pen of exceptionally good iTersey heifers in fine condition offered on behalf of Mr W. H. Nicols, Makairo, made £9 10s. Sheep were confined to a couple of lines of hoggets which were soldby private treaty, and a
line of butcher's ewes and wethers which made 21s at auction.
At Colyton, on Tuesday, the entry of cattle consisted principally of female stock and weaners, for which there was not a great demand, a few pens of sheep sold readily. ■ .
Afc Ealmerstori, on Thursday, the demand for young stock was not so keen | and heifers in calf were unsaleable at | the reserves. All classes of sheep, good 8-yv bullocks, fat cows and good forward empty cows sold readily. At Mr "Whitehead's sale of dairy stock, at Shannon, on Wednesday, there was a large attendance and spirited competition for the cows which soldreadily up to .£lO 10s, the average price, for 80 of the best of the herd being £8., .. Sows with litter '£4 5s to £4 lOs; yearlmg heifers, £2 Is; 8-yrunbroken half-ckaugliffilly, £22; yearling filly, £10 ; 'ftged draught mave, £25. . '■■•■.■".■■:-.■:" -."■■ -:}..:' ■
