Phemie was first off the mark followed by-Submarine and Chartreuse. Barman swerved when the tapes were released and lost several lengths. At the four furlong post Chartreuse and Submarine were in front with Rotoairo close up on the outside. A great race home resulted in Submarine winning by half a length, Saraband beating Rotoairo by a head for second place. Time, lmin 22 2-5 sees. Divs , £1 17s and £6 6?.

Raema led all the way and won easily by two lengths. Delight ran off at the third jump and Ontario fell at the last hurdle. Hokio finished a length in front of Defoe. Time, 3min 6 4-ssecs. O'Neil), 7 Quicklight 9.7 (W. Better.) The field was despatched to an even start, Te Kohau and Towhatu taking the first jump together, with. Hutana, Eclair, and the others close up. The order was the same oyer the gorse leading- on to 'the course and on to the next hurdle,

when Rhyl closed up to second place and led up to the brush fence, the next obstacle. He gave place to Towhatu at the next ' jump!., and . \he latter led into the straight followed 'by Rhyl, Te Kohau, Hutana and Sabreur. The order was the same over the next hen coop and over the double m front of the stand Towhatu led Te Kohau and Rhyl, Hutana next. Sabreur fell at the.first jump of the double. At the fence leading from the course Te Kohau fell, leaving Rhyl second while Mocassin ran up to third. At the hen coop before entering the course again Rhyl fell. The leaders all got over the gorse jump on to : the . course where Quicklight refused and was not persevered with. Mocassin was on level terms with Towhatu at the next hurdle but in the jump, the^Rangitikei horse put another length between'them. They led over the"next two brush fences, Hutana and' Eclair lying third and fourth, the rest- straggling. Rounding the back stretch leading to the straight Mocassin passed Towhatu, Hutana and Eclair next in order. • Once over the last hencoop the issue was not in doubt; the Hippocampus gelding easily accounting for Towhatu oh the flat. In the run home Hutana, Eclair and Union Jack closed up and a great race between them resulted in Towhatu beating Eclair by a head, Hutana close up fourth.
