What is .perhaps the: premier horse sale of the colony,was held during the last four days at Cambridge.: when 720 horses of- all. classes were sold, buyers being present: from^allS'parts; 'of* 'the colony. Competition^riwas^ brisk - for every description of .horse;-,' Hacks and "light harness Horses were,not up.to:the usual standard of entry,; these,glasses containing too many" undersized "and weedy animals This no ; doubt was lareely the result of many good animals going away at ( the time of.the Boer.war. Suitable mares to breed from were not plentiful, and geldings, six to nine years old, fit to work every day, are not in the district. The yarding of draughts would do credit to any district-in the colony, a feature, being the splendid array of 3 year olds. Outside buyers took a large number away. The highest price obtained was £60, for a yearling by "Better Times." Heavy 3.and 4-year-old draughts made from £4,5 to the ■abpvefigure, and good medium draughts, 3, 4, and 5-year-old, £35 to £45. Horses the siime ai?e and a little lighter, £30 to £35; 7 to 10-year-oid medium draught?, £25 to £32; agtd"draughts-£l2 to £25; brood draught mares..£3O'to £44; three draught stallions 71gns, lQOgns, lOlgns; and the best upfitanding light harness horses £20 to £29; others £12 to £20 ; small cob ponies 15s .to' £8; ordinary hacks £10 to £18; good cobs £10 to £15.
