The remains of the late Mrs F. Scott .were..interred in the. local cemetery on Sunday afternoon. A number of.friends attended at the graveside, to pay theit1 last vrcspects, • and 'an impressive address was delivered' by Sir C.'Warne. ;
The meeting of ratepayers as advertised was. held in the Library on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. Cr.J.H. Vincent ; was in the. chair. The Chairman explained the loan.proposals, and pointed out that in deference to the wish of ratepayers the Council had struck out the .' Siberia Boad, the whole -of the properties on the eastern side of the rivers were also struck out'of the special rating district for this loan. As regards the • Otangaki portion of the.loan it wasfouia necessary to make slightlalterations 'to- -'■ bring the sum to £1050, which was this riding's proportion of loanmdriey. ' ' '•■■■ The reason for striking a. special rato of nine thirty-seconds of a penny in tho ■ £ in lieu of the proposedJarthirig special rate was satisfactorily explained/ Aftes the. proposals as advertised had been read, the following resolution. proposod by Mr J. G. Maunder,-and seconded by Mr Nelson, was iinaiiimously cainied:— " That a poll be taken on the proposal ib - borrow; a loan^of as advertised."
