Peace Commemoration.

Yesterday the Mayor, Mr \V. T. Wood, was busy distributing the peace commemoration cards to the school children at tho Caiupbell-stvect, Kelvin Grove, and Stoney G'renk schools.

'The first visited was the .'own school, where in the unavoidable absence of the chairman of tho committee, Mr 11. I'iilmcr, Mr Watson, the headmaster, addressed n few words to the scholars relative to the object of the war, and the value of tho peace which had just been proclaimed. JIo then invited Mr Woo 3 to say a few words, which the latter did, nnd then handed the cards to Mr Watson for distribution.

Cheers were given for the Empire and iho Mayor, and under the direction of Mr Wankm, tho children sang in tine stylo tho " National Anthem," with which the ceremony concluded.

Kelvin Grove was next visited, whrro the chairman of tho committee was again unublo to bo present. Mr Mathicson, hewover. tool; the children in hand, and asked them a number of questions calculated to test their kuowledgo of evonts and personages connected with the war, all of which they answered with a promptness and accuracy which betokened that they had followed the fortunes of our contingents with great diligence and intelligence.

After a few approDriato remarks by Mr Wood, tho curds were distributed, and tho '• National Anthem " was siing and cheers wero given for the Mayor. At ikonoy Crept, which was nex* visited, Mr Wood was met by Mr McPhail, chairman of the School" CcmmiUce, and addresses wero given to tho children by Mr Wood, the chairman of' the Committee, and by Mr Stagpoolo, the hc-ml master, each of tho speakers impressing upon tho scholars tho importance of the victory won in South Africa, and tho great benefits of the peace which had ju-t been proclaimed, and of which tho cards presented wore to be kept as p. souvenir. After tho '•National Anthem" had been sung, cheers wero again given- for the Mayor, and tha proceedings terminated. To-day Mr Wood visits ibeLongburn, Jackoytown, and Kairanga Schools,
