At hist session of tho District Court a lib.l action was hoard in which Mr T, Thomas, headmaster of tho Eltham State school, was plaintiff, andMr JudJ, d. fondant. .load's boy wa3 punished by tho master, and tho libel complained of was contained in a letter written by defendant to the Elthain paper in which the punishment was described as " brutal." The jury found for defendant, and tho plaintiff moved for a new trial. Tho application has been granted on tbe ground that the verdict of tho jury was against tho weight of evidence
