Hospital Board.
The monthly meeting ot the Palmerston Hospital Roard was held this morning. Present, — Messrs Haydon, (chairman), Goodbehero, Pleasants, Cooko.Luxford, Wilson, Pearce, Dieki n, Hammond and Williamson. connEsi'O.vnrxe::. From Secretary AA rellingion Hospital Board, staling that he had been instructed by iiis trustees io claim from (he Palmerston Board tlie sum of £12 I>. for maintenance of a patient from this district in the AVellington Hospital. —More information to be supplied. From J. M. Fraser, offering to pay the travelling expenses of his nephew. AVilli-uu Eraser, to Rotorua, provided the Hoard granted maintenance at the Sanatorium.— It was decided to grant Ihe request for three months. From 1 faleombe Town Bonn', statins: that the sum of 10s per week had been grant... to assist the man Fenner, but considered he was entitled lo the old a"c pension.—[t was d-eirh-d to tike proceedings against a daughter ol Fenner's for maintenance. From C. Montague, asking for maintenance of Mrs Buck, a Palmerston resident at Napier.—Grant of 7s per week made. .lISCELLAXEOfS. The Secretary, Mr Rutherfurd, wrote resigning his position. Mr Rutherfurd stated he took this action solely on account of the annoyance caused by recipients and seekers after charitable aid, who did not even respect his private house. He was always ready in eases of urgency to do his utmost, Imt ho strongly objected to the unnecessary harassing he had experienced. He regretted parting with the Board, and he thanked the members for their support. Mr Goodbchere said he was not surprised at the resignation, under the circumstances, but considered that the Hospital and Charitable Aid departments should be separated, and Mr Rutherfurd returned as secretary to the Hospital Board.
_ Several other members spoke in a similar strain, and it was eventually decided to hold the resignation in abeynnce till next meeting, the Executive in the meantime to separate the Hospital and Charitable Aid work, and consider the question of appointing a Charitable Aid ollicer.
Lite secretary was instructed to take a h'gal opinion in connection with the Saville property at Foxton.
The Board then adjourned.
