Good Root Crops.
The U.F.C.A. are showing somo of the finest specimens of roots ever secu in the district, comprising Sutton's " prizo-winner mangols " and Sutton's "crimson king Swede." These have been brought in by Mr S; W. Luxford, of Awapuni, and, we understand, were picked promiscuously by him out of his growing crop, which he states is remnrk ably even in character throughout. The seed was obtainud from tho United Farmers' Association, ngents for Wellington province for Sutton's famous seeds, and they prosent a picture which should gladden the hearts of pastoralists. On being weighed tho " prize-winner " mangols turned tho scale at 201bs each ; the average weight of the " crimson king" Swede being about 121bs each. By careful admeasurement Mr Luxford estimates that his crop ot " crimson king" Swedo would average over 35 tons to the acre. The splendid specimens aro well worthy of a visit from those who aie interested.
A very fine sample of white Belginu carrot is also shown, the whole forming a striking testimonial of the bigli character of the seed supplied by the association. The above roots wera grown without manure of any kind being used.
