Drainage Board.

The monthly meeting of the Mana" watu Drainage Board was held this morning. Present—Messrs Bryant (chairman), Bauson, Knigbl, Eclf, O'Loughlan, Voss, and Monrad. conniisPoxDENCK. From J. T. Ling, stating that the artesian well at the Bunnyihorpe creamery, complained of by tho Board, had been lapped for the past two I months.—deceived.

From E J Itiddiford, staling that the nuisance complained of by him in connection with the water taken from the drain for the flushing of Mr AVingalc's slaughterhouse still' existed, and was caused by a block put in the drain. He also complained that artesian water was being put into the drain.—The Chairman staled the former alleged nuisance had bc<;u abated, the water not being required for the slaughterhouse, and it was decided to write Mr Riddiford to that effect.

From A. Farmer, pointing out the condition of the Aorangi road drain adjoining his property,—The engine r stated the work was already let.

From Sluggish River Drainage Board, suggesting that a joint application .be ma if by the Aorar.gi and Manawatu Drainage Boards to the Minister cf Lands, through the members for ihe districts, fji-an amendment to tins Hating Act in the direction of rating for drainage by an acreage rate.—lt was decided to fall in with the suggestion, provided it be optional whether the rating is on the graduated scale or by acreage. J!.fsci;llani:ous. The committee appointed reported that;they had empowered Mr Tews to deepen the drain complained of by him on llughos' lino for about 30 chains at a cost of £:i, he agreeing to keep the dram clear during the winter.—Confirrard. Mr Hughes waited on the Board and complained that the work dono by Mr Tews brought more water through his property.—No action taken.

Mr liilsillie wailed on the Board and stated that Mr Ryman hud agreed to allow a drain to be taken through his property.—Messrs O'Loughlan,' Voss aim the Engineer, were appointed to writ on Mr Ryman and make arrangements in connection with the matter and report to next meeting. The Engineer was authorised to go on wilu the extension of 13 chains of drain on Mason's Line.

Mr Mildon waited on th<- "Board and asked if the Board wonld trap n drain where it joins Whisky Creek. It was decided to put in 9-inch pipes or to trap the drain.

It x:\a decided Unit the contractor for Bennett's drain bo given the option of having an extended lime for the completion of his contract, or ilia cost to bo deducted from contract price. The Rating Committee recommended that the general rate be struck a<s follows :—JN'o. 1 class, i>d in the £ ■ No. 2 class, 9-16 d in the M ; ]So. U class, M in £; the special rate of 1 Ud, l-7d and -Jd. to be collected.—Adopted. Mr P. A. Mi-Hardy waited on the Board in reference to ihe cleaning out of Harris' Creek, statin? he was willing to contribute to the cost of the work. Mr Kni^lit also expressed his willingness to contribute to the cost.

It was decided that Mr Belf and the Engineer inspect Whiskey Creek in reference to an extra payment of £'4 10s for the removal of timber by the contractors.

The Board then adjourned.
