A meeting of those who haye promised donations towards the. cost of improving the Post Olfieo Reserve was held at Mr Vincent's ofliee on Ihumlny evening, there being present Messrs Vincent, IJimmer, Buckhan, Clapham, Sotulergaard, Bead, West, Wilson, Lori' mcr. Maunder, Hal ford and Warden Pierev.
Mr Vincent explained to the meeting the action he had already taken in tho matter, and made several suggestions as to what fence would be best suited for the purpose. He stated that (he position stood as follows :—Donations promised, .£l2; estimated cost of i-nprovo-ment, without footpath, £20. He trusted that when the fence was up and shrubs planted that those with any interest in the township would make it their duly to Fee that the thing was not in any way abused. He, for one, would do his duty in the matter.
It was resolved : " That those present be a committee to do their utmost to commemorate the Coronation by beaulitying tho Post Oth'ce Reserve" ; and " that a fence as under be erected round the reserve, viz., post and ton tail painted white, 3 wiros, the whole.fo be 3ft 6in high; also three turnstiles, one at each corner cf the reserve."
It was also decided that the following be appointed a working committee :— Messrs Vincent, Rimmer, Buckiiam, Sondergaard and Read.
The following further subscriptions have been promised toward? improving the reserve:—J. Curreen os, F. Road 2s lid.
It is understood that all amounts collected over and above the actual cost of improvements to the resorvo will be expended in entertaining the children on Coronation Day. We are very pleased to hear that Mr W. Turner, who underwent a very painful operation in Dr. Graham's Hospital, is considerably better, and will return to his home to-day. At the meeting of the Manchester Road Board on Friday, the following business was transacted in connection with Ashhurst: -The watertabies in front of Mr "W. Port's residence to be cleaned out. A request from the School Committee for a donation to entertain the children was not granted, as the Board did not consider the rates should be used for such an object. The wages of roadman Blixt was raised Is per day, to date from May. In reply to a request from Mr Vincent, on behalf of a number of ratepayers, the Board voted £25 towards forming the pathway round the Post Otlice reserve, in commemoration of the Coronation, and the clerk was in* structed to write to the Government asking for a subsidy on that amount to assist the improvements. If the Manchester Eoad Board will pay £3139 5s Sd towards the cost of the Gorge bridge, the re-erection will be a certainty.
On Wednesday night Air Pallant will give an entertainment consisting of lantern views. Half the proceeds will go to the school funds.
A public meeting is called for Monday night to see what action shall be taken, in conjunction with other parties, to entertain the public on Coronation Day.
