The following casualties occurred near Johannesburg on May 28th-—¥ o 203, Private William Byrne, killed • Ho 400, Private Francis Clissold Xnu'blev' severely- wounded; No. 400, Private Alexander James Hastie, slightly wounded." 6 •> Trooper Byrne, whose death is an nounced in the above messag,, hailed from Tunaru. He had a narrow escape of losing his life at the Koornspruit ambush, his horse being shot under him He was on that occasion rescued by Lieutenant Hughes. Bvrne was a member of the first contingent.
