Manchester Road Board.
The monthly meeting of the Man ¥ Chester Road Board was held on Frida.J( Present—Messrs F. Y. Lethbridge (chair* man), G. "Wheeler, H. ,T. Booth, G. S. Rumble, O. 0. Pleasants, "W. G. Pearce, D. Thomas.
Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : —
From J. Menzies, asking that some one be appointed to see to the ford at Menzies bridge site as it frequently changed.—Mr Cawood adpointed.
From F. Campbell and H. Adsefet drawing attention to the deplorable state of Reid's line —To be informed that it is impossible to do anything to ihe road ia its present state.
From G. Millen, agreeing to sell land required for Valley road deviation for ;£3OO, the Board to pay all the expenses and cost of the fonce in addition.
From J. Slipper, Bunnythorpe, recloied roads there, and again urging that they be opened.
From H. Eichardion, Bunnythorpe, asking that watertable in front of tbe post office be cleaned out and a few loads of metal placed there.—Engineer to attead to matter.
From 8. M. Slipper, F. Jefferies, C. Jefferies and H. 'Wiggins, asking that all roads between Ingleby-street and Bunnythorpe-Ashhurst road be opened. —Mr Scheldt waited on the Board in connection with this matter and, after discussion, agreed to remove gates from Raymond street.
The Engineer reported that the roads generally throughout the district were in fair order. The Rangitawa road was cut through in several places and required about 80 yards of gravel; the Makino road was also giving way in several places and required about 100 yards of metal, A culvert on Spur road and another on Ulysses road required renewal. The bridge on Taonui road ner-r creamery was in a dangerous state and required repairing and strengthening, whioh could be done with old timber from Menzies' bridge. A culvert on Stoney Creek road required raising; 50 loads of metal were required on FeildingBunnyihorpe road. With reference to the Champion road machine, he reported having purchased one after consulting with the Chairman. It was now being used for trimming water tables and repairing roads. It was doing excellent work and would be a great saving m coet of maintenance of tbe roads. It is. especially adapted for taking off stuff which accumulates on each side of the road outside of the general traffic ; for this kiad ef work it will save at least 75 per oent. on the usual cost. He had beon working it with three horses and a driver at 20s per day, but would ree»tnmend four horses.
.Resolved, That footbridge over Stoney Creek on the Bunnythorpe-Ashhurst road be mode four feet wide to enable sheep to be driven ovtr.
Resolved, That the present ranger's appointment be terminated and that applications be c*lled for two rangers for the whole of the district, one for the eastern and one for (be western sides of the Oroua river.~ Star.
