(Per Press Association.) j CHPasTCHUECH, June 4. j At the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr Justice Edwards, two men, who had been convicted at the criminal sessions, came up for sentence. Michael Ford, ioiy _ theft, was released on his own vhT ISr,'T l7^° up for sentence when called on. James Pope, for assault on his w-fe at Governor's Bay, was sentenced to three years. Tlie Judge remarked that if an y scheme could be devised to protect the public, he weuld recommend his release. . Wellington, June 3. At the Supreme Court last night, the charge against Harry Albert Eversleigh, formerly clerk in the Government Roads and Survey Department, of falsifying the books with intent to defraud, was concluded after a two days' hearing, -the ]Ul: y returned a verdict of guilty. Other charges of theft were withdrawn. -d t. , Jun(3 4. -bversleigh applied for probation, but Sir Robert Stout refused, saying probation was not meant for such cases, and sentenced accused to eighteen months' imprisonment.
