The Powers are threatening to override the Tsung-li-Yamen's opposition to their recent representation that the " Boxers" must be suppressed. A special train has left Tientsin conveying bodies of marines and bluejackets to guard the British and Russian and other Legations at the capital. Five quick-firing guns were also sent on. COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS.
Sydvey, June 1. gßu iH&gf ollowing twelve nominations to the Legislative CounciL have been announced :—Messrs A. W. Meeks, W. Robson, Reginald Black, W T. C. Hill, T. M. Slattery, J. B. Nash, Fred Flower and H. Stuart, of Sydney ; John Meagher, Bathurst; Alex. Rass, Germanton; G. F. Earp, Newcastle ; Hugh Langwell, Bourke. Mr Slattery was a member of Sir George Dibb's Ministry ; Messrs Meeks and Black are directors of the A.M.P. Society, and are identified with other important commercial institutions ; Mr Hill is a member of the firm of Hill and Clark; Mr Earp is president of the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce: Messrs Langwell, Stuart and Flowers represent labour. Mr Slattery will probably represent the Ministry in the House. BELGIAN ELECTIONS. Brussels, June 1.
