Mysterious Disappearance.

A few days ago information was conveyed to the police by Mr Charles White, of Kairanga, to the effect that his brother, Alfred Vernon White, had disappeared and that no tidings could be obtained of his whereabouts. From what we can learn, Mr C. V. White came to the colony in January last, and had been ljving with his brother at Kairanga until May 16th, On that day he left home with the expressed intention of coming into Palmerston, since which date nothing has been seen or heard of him On May 22nd Mrs White, while cleaning out the room he occupied, found the following letter in his box:—"Dear Charlie,—Thanks for past kindnesses, for which I cannot ever repay you. Don't trouble any more about me. If I annoy any one with the stink, bein« a way rotten flesh has, I reckon they will shift it, so jusc lay low as no one will know just who it is. Good-bye, old chap—A. V. W.—Send letter that is with this to Ciss, also a 2M stamp, find tanner for same on top." Mr White is inclined to the opinion that his brother has done away with himself, but as he is a man who has travelled a great deal, being of a roving disposition, it is thought that perhaps he may have gone off to some other part of the colony, although he took neither clothes or money with him. The missing man at one time owned a sugar plantation in Queensland, but since he lost his wife a few months ago has appeared very unsettled in his mind.
