LORD ROBERTS' ADVANCE.

DRAWING NEAR JOHANNESBURG

London, May 29. The following official communication has been issued by the War Office :— On Monday Lord Eoberts marched twenty miles northward to the Klip river, within eighteen miles of Johannes • burg.

The enemy abandoned their successive positions whenever they were approached. They were just in time to entrain five of their guns as some West Australians dashed into the Klip river station. Lieut.-General French's cavalry and Major General lan Hamilton engaged the enemy ten miles to the westward. Firing had been heard from that direction since noon.
