OBITUARY.

I W. K. SIMPSON. . It is with profound regret that we > have to record the death of Mr Walter Kirkpatrick Simpson, which ooourred at his residence, Oroua Bridge, at 11.45 last evening, at tho comparatively early age of 53 years. Mr Simpson had only [ been seriously ill since Sunday, although he has been suffering at intervals during ■ the paßt three months from a severe cold and influenza, but not the slightest danger was apprehended by either his friends or the members of his family. However, last week tho influenza developed into a serious illness, which eventually caused his death. Mr Simpson arrived in the Colony in 1865, landing in Wellington on May 10th, from his birthplace, in the North of Scotland, and I he has, practically speaking, been in the Manawatu ever since. For some years I ho was connected with his brother, R. K. Simpson, in ffming pursuits in the Hunterville district, leaving there to take charge of the well-known Oroua Downs Estate, where he was engaged as manager for about fifteen years. Prom ' Oroua Downs Mr Simpson went to I Puketotara, where he was engaged in pursuits on his own account, I Messrs Pascal Bros, eventually buying [ him out, with the exception of 300 acres, which ho reserved for himself, Mr | Simpson going to reside on the farm | now occupied by tho family at Oroua I I Bridge.' He was also for some years I Sheop Inspector on this coast, and at f the time of his death was a member of I

the Manawatu Hoad Board. About 1873 Mr Simpson married Elizabeth, daughter of the late Henry Symons, of Ooiki, a well-known resident of the Manawatu, and his wife and seven children now survive him. Ho will be buried on Saturday at Eoxton, where several members of tho family are already buried. Mr Simpson was exceedingly popular, and his death will be greatly regretted by a vast number of friends and acquaintances.
