' (Per Press Association). ' Wellington, Joly 14. A case ct alleged cruelty to a child is ocoupyitg the attention of the Magistrateb Court. John M. Healey, olerkin the Land and Income Tax Department, «nd his wife, Margaret, are aojused of " '•■aggravated assault'on their nephew, .Albert Greeen, an orphan, 12 years 7 months, who, with his brothers, lives with them. The boy deposed to being stripped and savagely thrashed with a hHe whip. He was also starved and had to get food from the neighbours. 1 He admitted various thefts and that he had been punished for burning kerosene rafts and sticks in a room whioh he said be did to get a light. Mr Hutcheaon, M.H R i had seen bad bruises on the boy and often saw him carrying exoessiye loads of Wood. He had often olven him food and remonstrated with the Healeys, but both denied 111-using /ie boy, and said he was hopelessly incorrigible. The case was adjourned itfU the afternoon to enable Mr Jelhooe *o conduct the proßeeution in place of 4he police.
