The Duncdin Star states authoritatively that free pardons in connection with the Jubi'ee have been extended to Annie Brjane, undergoing sentence for infanticido at Invercargill, Louis Chemis, convicted of the Kaiwarra murder, and a Maori named Bolland, who has served upwards of thirteen years for killing a man in a moment of temper, and whose conduct has been exemplary while in gaol, and twenty short-sentenced prisoners in various parts of the colony were also liberated. The Star further says that the case of the woman Flanaghan, convicted at Christchurch some, years ago of killing her own child, was reviewed by the executive, but her antecedents were such that clemency of the Crown could not be extended in her case.
