Manawatu Road Board.
The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held on Monday. Present— Wardens Buick (Chairman), Simpson, Sanson and Smith. Correspondence was received as follows :— From C. Slack, asking for a redaction of valuation owing to 24 acres being taken by the river.—Left in the hands of the Secretary to attend to. From the Survey Dopartment, stating that the right. to take a road through Middle Aorangi 1 and 1a had lapsed.— Consideration deferred. From the Auditor General, with certified balance-sheet. From the Railway Department, requesting permission to deviate the Ngawhakarau road in order to erect a flagstation on the road.—Granted. From the Manchester Boad Board, with cheque for £19 2s, final payment for Henderson's Line Bridge. From M. Hamilton; complaining of a tree obstructing the Native Boundary road. —The Overseer reported that it had been attended to. Frdm P. Robert, with notice of assignment by J. Lane of monies accruing due on the Kelvin Grove contract. From J. P. Innes, claiming £12, on behalf of J. Lane, alleged to be due on Boyes' Boad contract.—After hearing the overseer and Messrs Lane and Dobbs the Board decided to pay the amount. From D. Mathieson, stating the Bonnythorpe Cemetery Iload required metalling.—The overseer was instructed to have the work done. From Mrs Wichewsky, stating she would not pay any rates until a strainer on her property was replaced.—The Board declined to recognise any authority. From A. S. Baker, forwarding opinion as to Board's liability for damages to Mrs Wichnewsky's fences. From E. Koehler, forwarding petition for the formation of Miles' Boad, —De--cided to have the necessary work carried ont. REPORTS. The Inspector of Slaughteryards, Mr Do Blois, reported favourably on the state of the Longburn Freezing Works and the various yards in the district, all of which were found to be clean and in good order.—Adopted. The Overseer of Works reported the various contracts were in an advanced stage and would be completed at an early date. Duley's road-metalling contract had been completed and the protective works at . the Awahuri bridge had been completed. The overseer reported that the roads in the district were in a very bad state and would require considerable attention before the winter is over. ' Work would be commenced on the Foxton Line during the coming week.—The report was adopted and the engineer instructed to purchase necessary tools and also employ extra labor. TRANSFERS. The following transfers in the rate roll were agreed to: —D. Manson to JL McKenzie, W. Thim to E. C. White, S. Sdllars to B. Lapgdon, M. Alderson to P. Culkeon, James Walker to E. J. liiddiford, J. Slipper, senr., to J. Slipper, junr., C. Peck to S. McLean, I. Coldstream to G. Holland, P. Scheldt to W. li. Smith, B. Carey to A. Needham, Hill Bros, to B. W. Preston, H. H. Schofield to Mrs Dixon, D. Manson. to W. H. Smith, J. Christensen to J. J. Tait. MISUBLLANKOUS. The annual general, meeting of the ratepayers wittjoe held next Board day, 12th July, at 1 p.m. It was decided to write to the Aorangi Drainage Board, requesting that the scop-bank on the Acrangi drain should be re-erected, and that pipes be placed in the drain leading to the Aorangi drain. Messrs Coombs and G. L. P. Scott, engineer, waited on the Bowd with reference to the letter received from the Survey Department in connection with a road through the Middle Aorangi, and after discussion it was resolved that the Engineer (Mr Scott) should return the warrant and explain .that the road through Lower Aorangi 1 ane 1a was of no utility, and request that a road be ' given from Oroua Bridge to sections 1 and 1a along the river. The Overseer was instructed to arrange with Mr Manson to have the summer road past his house put in repair at a total cost not exceeding £20, Mr Manson to wait six month? for repayment. Messrs Harris, Small and Gordon waited on the Board with reference to the new formation on the Rangitikei Line, but after hearing them the Board decided to take no action. _ In reference to the continuation of Hamilton's line to the Ngawhakarau road, it was decided to instruct the Board's Solicitor to obtain the transfer of the road line from the Europeans and Natives to conneot the road with Ngawhakarau. A number of accounts were passed for payment.
