THE UNKNOWN CREDIT.
It is very satisfactory to find that the credit of New Zealand is so high ti.at our securities arc on a par with those of New Mouth "Wales, despite the fact that extraordinary attempts have been made to destroy the good name of the colony for paltry party purposes. It is a strange thing that there is only one colony in Aus- | tralasia where politicians " foul their own nest" in this manner, and only one party which indulges in it, viz., tho Conservatives of New Zealand. Everywhere else party politicians are content to use legitimate means to oust their opponents, but they all unite in their endeavors to uphold the credit and soundness of their adopted homes. But the quotations Sublished in reference to our stock o not throw the most favorable light on their position, for not long since a New Zealand institution endeavored to purchase our 3 J per cent stocks at tho current quotation of £112 and found none were obtainable, under £120. It is a complete answer to those time-serving politicians who are always attempting to injure tho colony's credit, to compare the position of her securities with those of older, richer and more thickly populated colonies in Australia.
