DETECTIVE KIBBY.
(Per Presß Association.) Wellingtok, June 3. A resident hern states that he saw Kirby, who was disguised, in Moloeworth street on Monday night, but the police think it unlikely, though they believe lie is still in Wellington. It is stated that a large case was put on the Talune at the last moment, which went on top of the rest of the cargo in the main hatch. The constable who was watching for Kirby remembers seeing this case, but there was nothing suspicious about it. A nephew of Kirby's was a passenger by the vessel. Kirby was by no means popular in the force, and had made himself extremely disliked by hiu conduct towards those he had to work with. By those who understand the feeling towards him the idea of connivance by the police is scouted. It is said there is only one policeman in the force suspected of having any sympathy with the ex-detective. Sydney, June 2. The police closely watched the discharge of the cargo of the Talune today in the event of Kirby having stowed away in the hold. Amongst the goods was a suspicious-looking case, loosely closed, which attracted attention. On being opened, this case was found to contain a quantity of biscuits, two loaves of bread, two empty bottles which had apparently been filled with water, and some clothes. On closer search being made, a bank draft in favour of Kirby Was found, and also nil envelope containing the address of a friend of his resident in Sydney, on whom, it is stated, he intended to call. There was also a message to the friend. The police nre exercised as to whether this find is a ruse or not. fJune3. Tho police hold the opinion that Kirby did not come to Sydney by the Talune.
