A back eddy brouerht the punt - hard against the wire and the punt wa« already healing oye^when v the poles jguiding the pun^t broke jusfe as 'the ferryman was get^ng bis* knife out, to 1 cut tße punt loose and let it down the river. \ MrWollerman is convinced that the punt could not. have. beep cut, loose m time and the/breaking ■of thY poles ; was tile only thing that saved them. The ; poles m bfe^ing^alsp tdbk|the hand.failirs fownf on jbhe Up-rivfr iide of thi punt, laying the debris against 'Mr Wollerinan'a trap and_ horse. , As Muck Would have it, the. horse was very : quiet and did not stir. Some difficult}' was experienced m getting _ the ropes, .guiding the punt along the wire front under (the punt, where they had been jammed . On the whole it was a miraoul "ous escape.
