Cruel Treatment of a Boy.
(united press association.) (Jhristchurch, Tuesday. Two Lyttelton residents, Stephen Norris and John Dyer, have written to the Mayor of tbe borough stating that on June 10th., a cold wet day, while they were working at aome repairs to the Orphanage, they saw a boy named Mitchell sitting stark naked on the asphalt, with a bigger boy throwing cold water over him. Mitchell was screaming and blue with cold, and they say that had the treatment been continued much longer death would have resulted, He had comtnifcetd some childish act of uncleaolinesa, and the older boy had been told to wash him. The Mayor sent the letter to the Orphansre Committee, which has ordered a searching inquiry into the matter.
