The prospectus ofnhe : Company will be shortly published. The plant has been ordered from Home, and it is expected will be here m $ months' time. Between this and then the necessary buildings will bare to be erected, the mains laid, and other requisite preparations made. It is not unreasonable! to .expect that by next winter gas jwill belaid on* at any rate m the Square, In the competent hands of Messrs Resipn. and; Hayes, satisfactory :pr«grisi may be looked tor, with? the assurance that the undertaking jwill be by them successfully carried out to completion. In a few : days jwe hope to be able to lay fuller details before our readers, which, atjthe present stage, for obvious, reasons, it is not considered advisable to publish. Meantime, the congratulatory fact can be placed on record that matters hare proceeded very satisfactorily, so far, and that within a short time, it is confidently expected that actual operations will be put m hand, with * reasonable expectation of gas being introduced within a twelve, month from the present date. The introduction of gas will mark m important epoch m the history of Falmerston North, and aho'uld tend to promote increased confidence in i the present ire--•ourcies; and future prospects of the town and its environc. : With the introduction of gas other stages of advancement and improvements will follow, and progress and brisk trade should before long be the order of the day, which will be a pleasant change from the stagnation and depression that have prevailed so long. The necessary works should necessitate the employment of; a pood deal of labour, and cause an increased circulation of money among

the labouring classes, of which our business men will experience the benefit We trust soon to be able to announce the gratifying fact tHat the preliminary operations have been actually commenced. '
