Great excitement, was caused here -Jby the receipt of news that a dreadful murder has, been committed at Trypheiia Harbor m Great Barrier Island on Saturday morning last, by which a settler named Robert Tayjpr was , shot ! : dead by "'John i Gafirey master, and Henry Pehn, 'mate of ■thecutter Sovereign of tbe $c«; (j Citffrey, who is an old trader to the Barrier, paid his addresses to Miss Jjane; Taylor about four y tars agd, but . ftjsr father ; ;(the murdered man) refused, to give his consent to the marriage. Breaking off the match .seemed to rankle m Caffrey's breast, though lie has not expressed any feelings the family during his stay m town. After his last trip he gave' way to drink and was intoxicated before leaving last Thursday night. The police are arranging to go with a steamer, to capture the : murderers who have cleared out m the cutter and are still cruising about the Great Barrier.
