(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.") Auckland, Thursday. Thewhaleship Petrel enquiry terminated yesterday at Russell, when Oapt. Reid, the mate, and the second niate made a statement generally denying the charges, of cruelty and of accelerating the death of the two men. The police have taken possession of the ship. Two constables were on board all night and neither of the accused was allowed on board. This morning the third officer consented to take charge of the ship.
