Manna, a aubnrb of Deyonpbrt, Wai uriuauaily excSted'late last night, when t\t* fact became known that a man named Luriny had deliberatclly ehot his wife, and afterward attempted to mur. der « man named George MoGuire. The abort facts of the oaie are as follows :— McGiiire is a blacksmith, employed at the Callibpe Dock. For some time be waif boarding :at the house of the would-be aisauin, but lately had fonnd other Iqds'tngs. From statements | ■of the prisoner it would seem that he had been a little too tanjiliar with Mrs Lunny, or at any rate too friendly to sait the taite of the huibaod. List night Mrs Lunny went over to Devonportto see her children; she was accompanied by a friend named Mrs Renwick. As they prooeeded along the beach m the direction of Calliope Dock, they met her husband near the corner of Enox street. Mrs Lunny told him that she was going to see her children for the last time before taking a situation. He at once pulled out a revolrer and fired two shots at her/ Her husband then walked qujokly away. Subsequently he met the man McGuire, and also fired at him, but missed bis mark. Lunny j has hitherto, borne an excellent character. He was brought up at the Police Court to-d ay and remanded for seven day« i( on a charge dt wilful raurder. l|rs Lunny was' brought ovei 1 from IDevonport this afternoon, and removed tolb^ hoipitSl.
