THE LATE MR HAZARD.
Mr Hazard, who is reported to have perished with several of his family, waa teacher of the Native -.-school at Wairpa. He was originally a printer by trade, and was ;oh the- staff, -,:of the; Qizgo Daily Times WbJnjSiri Juiius Vbjrei was editor. Mr a Farjeon, the well-known, author, -was bead :-o'f : the; commercial department of the paper. Mr Hazard was overseer printer,! and made up the first issue ot the Otago Daily Times. He took charge of the Maori school m the beginning of 1877, and set to work. in an earnest manner to clear and plant a home for himself and ;• family. In that he. succeeded admirably, and he had made a very nice place of it. He was a member of the Blue Ribbon Army, and did invaluable service m the., district in.induo~ing a large number of Maoris 'to. bVcome total abstainers. He was about 60 years -
