The Wreck of the Ly-ee-Moon.
Among the sufferers by the wreck is Mr W. J. Holloway, the well-known actor and manager, who lost the whole of his theatrical wardrobe. The members of his company lost their jewellery, dresses, and property, The whole of the company came overland to Sydney from Melbourne, sending their wardrobes and accessories by steamer under care o£ Mr A. M'Gregor, who is among the drowned passengers. Mr" W. Holloway arid company were wholly uninsured. The value of the Ly-ee-Moon and freight is estimated at between £200,000 and £300,000, and the whole was insured m the Australian Steam Navigation Company's own office. J It is well known that m clear weather and daylight steamers trading between Melbourne and Sydney pass close to both Cape Horn, Green Cape, and Gabo Island. Under such circumstances they are quite warranted m doing so, and deep water is found almost up to the cliffs ; m fact, the lighthouse keeper often hails and. speaks to passing steamers. The danger creeps on, however, m thick weather, when cautious captains keep well out to sea, though it is known that all . round the coast, is hugged very oloselv, m order to cut the trip as short as possible. Disaster Bay, m which the wreck occurred, has been the scene of a great many wrecks, including those of the steamer City of Sydney, the barque Ellen Simpson, and the schooner Stormbird. .
