Blue Ribbon Temperance Union.
An entertainment under the auspices of the above was held m the Bank Chambers last evening. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, there was a very good attendance. Tba. proceedings were opened by an overture by Mr Cobb, which was followed by Mr Richardson singing " A hundred rear* ago." Misses Kebblewhite and Grata sang the duett " When silver, moonlight *. winds are blowing, 1 ' after which » dialogue was given by Masters W. . DixonandH. Mowleua, eutitled " Dara " to do right." Mr W. Haybittle then sang "The Tar's Farewell,", which received a well-deserved encore. This was followed by Mr Grace , reading a humorous piece entitled "Here she goes, and there she goes." The next item on the programme was a piano solo by Miss Anderson, a little girl about 8 years - old which fairly brought down ' the house. Miss J. Lin ton then eaug " Write me a letter from Home," and responded to an encore by singing very sweetly, -'Rock mo to sleep . mother, rock me to sleep." Master \V. Dixon then recited "Absolom," which' was followed by Mrs Kibblewhite singing, " Papa, stay home, I'm fatherless now." Mr H. Haybittle then recited, "Jacob Strauss," which producd bursts of laughter from the audience, who., demanded another recitation to satisfy ' their merriment. Mr Haybittle then gave "Bairnies, Cuddle Down." This was followed by Mr Grimes and Miss . Grace singing the duett, "What are tha wild waves saying?" Mr Whitebead then recited "The Wizard Corpse," which was followed by Mr Grace singing '• Dou't marry a man if he drinks." Mr Haybittle was next and sang " My bird m Heaven." He responded to an encore by singing th/e-.two last verses over again. Mrs Kibblewhite and Miss Grace sang the duett' "Plow on thou shining river," and received an encore. This was followed by Mr Richardson siuging "Our Jack's come home today," which was undoubtedly the gem of the evening. In response to an encore he repeated it. Miss Grace cam* nextwitli the song "I'll marry no man if he; drinks*" whujn* was followed by 'j Mrs Kibblewhite singing very sweetly, "He wipes the tear ', from < every: leye*' , This item concluded the programme. Mr Grace thanked those present on behalf of the Committee, for their attend* ance, and said it whs their intention to hold these gatherings monthly. Ha hoped those present wonld come along and record the same patronage as they had that evening. The proceedings then terminated by the singing of the National Anthem.
