Mr Parriell spoke and announced on behalf of the Irish party that he acquiesced m the principle of making the proposed Irish Parliament subject to the Imf perial Parliament. He denied haying m any way abused the pewers (entrusted to him, and stated that the Home Rule Bill would have the effect of speedily putting a stop to outrages m Ireland. Hie expressed the opinion that the Bill -would ; prove a permanent treaty of peace between England and Ireland. Sir Michael Hicks Beach, who : spoke next, complained that the Bill destroyed union without satisfying national sentiment. Mr Gla^Bione : ap^eale.d to the House to vote the principle of the ; Bill; which he declared would make \ the union closer. Upon a division being taken the Bill was rejected by :341 to 311. * Upoa the result being made known a scene of great excitement ensued. The- House adjourned until Thursday next
