Mr Walker, veterinary surgeon, who lately had his leg broken by a kick from a horse, 'has been, sent to the Wanganni Hospital for treat tnent. We learn that the case is now very serioci. The bones have not knitted, and an operation has to be performed which will b« very severe for a raau of his years and enfeebled physical strength. It is more than probable that amputation will have to take place, and it is doubfiul if that operation can be undergone without suTious results taking place. The poor eld man now deeply regrets not having gone to the Wanguuui hospital m the first instance. Messrs Suelson and Co announce for sale two teams with drays and harness. A special meeting of the A. 0. Shepherds will be held this evening m Bank Chambers at i 7.30 p.m. .Bnsiness important. Miss Ellis has started m business as dressmaker, next Cemetery Works, Terrace St. Wanganni has now 86 subscribers to the telephone exchange. This is really an extraordinary number for a place of the population of Wanganui, being considerably m excess of Napier. We would be glad if any irregularity m delivery of the Daily Standard be promptly notified to the office, so that inquiry may be made and the neglect or oversight rectified. We remind members of the Caledonian Society of the eeneral meeting to be held this eyening. It will be seen by our telegrams that the first no-confidence debate of the session has collapsed. It is not by any means probable that it will be the last, though, as further opportunities are sure to occur before long. In repiy to several correspondents we may state that we have been unable to ascertain whether Mr Proctor, the optican, will pay Palmerston a professional visit, or till what date he will remaiu m Wanganui We have written to him twice od the subject, but no information has been furnished.
