MR LINTON IN REPLY.

(to the editor daily standard.)

I Slb, — In reply to Mr Waltou's rather ; peppery letter m your Friday's issue, I j am of opinion that this School Comj utittee matter has not been probed any | too soon, and although my first letter on : the subject came m atthe eleventh hour, jas Mr Wai tou expresses it, good may j yet arise from it. Mr Walton says my ; accusations are uncalled for, and un)j justifiable; from his point of view, un- •. doubtedly, but I fail to see this for the \ simple reason that I am not alone m my opinion, the Educational Board itself having backed that opinion against his, hence the n*w election now advertised m the press. The use of the schoolroom being refused to the gentlemen representing the Board was only one of the errors committed m connection with the late election. Mr Walton is evidently on the war path over this business, as may be gathered from his frequent use of expressions such as "A slap on the face," and "smiting ou the right cbeek," which may be all very well to read about; but bad m practice. If it is still safe for me to hazard another opinion, I would say the Committee got the biggest slap m the face when thoir election was declared null and void 03' the Wanganui Education Board. Mr Walton urges that it was unfair on my part to judge the Committee on hearsay evidence. In reply I beg to say my judgement was formed by reading the press reports, and subsequent correspondence m newspaper columns since the election. As I have nothing whatever to do with the balance of Mr Walton's letter, nor any connection with the clique referred to, I pass it over by simply saying "that it is no use crying over spilj milk. The new electiou is the orthodox tiling under the circumstances, and I for one will be pleased to fcnow that all this bad sectarian feeling !Ms been swept away from our Public St'hool Committee! — I am, etc., James Linton.
