The funer.nl was very largely attended. is rather peculiar that whereas the consumption of spirits at the Wellington Hospital for the month of April. 1885, was 241£ pints, and malt liquors 124' pints, for the corresponding period this year the position was reversed, the qjfdutity cf spirits being 70J- pints, and the malt liquors 16 pints, A contemporary states that four members of the crews m the last Oxford aud Cambridge boat race hailed from the; antipodes. MUses Mowlem and Ltary presiding at th « i jiano kindly lent for the occasion. Altogether a very enjoyable evening may be looked forward to. The price of. admission is fixed at an exceptionally low rate, which should induce a large attendance. It is worthy of note, says 'the New Zealand Times, that as the Russian war-vessel, Vestnik, was brought up the harbor by Pilot Holme?, tbe officers made numerous inquiries as to the locality of the batteries, &c, and did not appear to express any admiration whatever of the Wellington fortifications.
