f Before Me3srs Bviick and Ferguson 1 Js.P.J Mr Fenton, storekeeper, laid an information against Mrs Tonjr, for obtaining goods on false pietenees sit the Cosmopolitan Stove, Terrace End. Cfcaa. Tong. husband of th*s accused, was also charged with (tiding and abetting his wife m the transaction. Mr G. F. Hawkins appeared for the complainant. No appearance of the accused. Constable Manning; deposed to serving the necessary summons. Ho beliejett the accused had cleared away atter receiving the summonses. W Fenton pvovefl the sale ot an axe value 7s 6.1, to Mrs Tong and also lending- her one shilling on Thursday, the 27th instant, she stating her husband was going buHhialhug and wanted an axe. Witness had a short timo before sold acoased an axo and he now pointed this on*, to her bub she explained the reason of her wanting another axe as her husband was fioinsr to work m the bush. Finding Jut the way they had acted witness went to their house and accused the Tongs of obtaining the goods under falae pretences, they m return for what he said gave him a lot ot impudence. . E. Jones deponed to seeing tbe aooused about Abrahams' shop and suV ■equenlly going into Lickfold'a. Witness, from information given him '>y his companion, Mr Bishop went to Mr Fenton ai the Terrace End Store. The woman shortly after ho arrived came into the store,and witness oa led Mr Fenton aside aud told him Ot what he had seen. Mr Fenton theu cam* out aud Mr Tong asked for a tent and fly. Mr Fenton asked her wlmt she «lul with the axe, she replied her hnnhand had it, he asked her if *he had pawned it, and m return received a tirade of abuse from her, Witnesa had m fact to olrar away #otn the accused as they also attacked him with stones, W. Bishop gave evidence to seeing the accused purchase the axe at the Conroo|ioliton Store and f J^^ Beeing them C o into LickfoM a. Witness was with Jonas on the latter os. b»Binu,»nK Jones remarked that be 'expected they were going to pawn the axe.
