A Wellington paper contains the following item .:— Mr Robert Ward has been appointed a ■Judge of the Native Land Court. The illumiuated scrolls used m the Lycium decorations yesterday were greatly ndmired, .by all who attended tbe gathering. They were prepared by our local artist Sir G. E. Hawkins, on whose taste and skillful execution they reflected most creditably. At the Police Court to-day Angnst Klcmatt charged F. Maule, ecu., with assault and damaging.his dollies. Mr Hawkins appeared fir complainant and Mr Staite for accused. Mr H. Gardes acted as interpreter. Messrs Hirst and McNeil occupied the Bench. After hearing the evidence tbe Bench decided tbat the i.'aats of assault should be dismissed, and for damaging* clothes, the accused to p»y the sum of 10s, each party to pay their own cos's. The town clerk left Palmerston on Saturday for Wellington m ch&rge of the Loan debentures which he will hand over to the Union Bank there. Victoria has joined the International Copyright Conveution.
