NATIVE RESERVES, The House went into Committee on the Native Reserve Title Brant Empowering Bill, which passed with verbal Amendments. JUSTICES OF THB PEACE. The House went into Uominittee on the Justices of the Peace Act, 1882 Amendment Bill. Mr Hurstbouse objected to clause 2, providing that chairmen of Road Boards •Ye to be Justices ex ofocw. On the amendment being put, the words " chairmen of Road Boards" were retained by 42 to 34. Mr Fulton moved, That chairmen of School Committees be elected justices. Lost by 47 to 25. Mr Guinness moved, That chairmen of Liceußing Committees be also elected Justices. Lost'by 45 to 20. On the motion of Mr Fergus, all councillors m counties where there are no Boad Boards were also appointed. Sir George Grey moved m the direction of maim? Justices of the Peace elective, and Ministers expressed themselves m favour of the. innovacation. : Mr Hursthouse reproached the Government for not having said so at first, instead of wasting the time of the Honse.
