The fears that the climate may be changed by the wholesale demolishment of bush that is. going on at present, are, no doubt well founded. But quite a new vista for research is opened up now, and we read m an Amerioau paper that m the State of Nebraska,, districts that used f brmerley to be deserts on account of: the scarcity of the rain-fall are now fertile plains. It is said that the gradual increase m rain fall is due entirely to the fact, that the land has been tilled and cultivated. The New York Times is responsible for the theory and the concurrent testimony of settlers, not only m Nebraska, but m Kansas and other regions m the far west, bears it out.
