Death of a Maori Chief.

; One of the most remarkable of the Hawke's Bay native chiefs, Morena Hawea, of Pourerere, died last Sunday at a very advanced age. Morena was .the first chief who welcomed Messrs Northwood and Nairn when those gentlemen were exploring the coast m search oil sheep country m 1848.
