Consequent upon the intelligence which has come to hand from Sydney, relative to the indication of an early rise m the butter market, business m this line has somewhat brightened, and we hear of several parcelst being secured from coun* try holders at 9d to 9£d ; advices, s£ate that the proposed import duty of Id per 1b m New South Wales, is. now an estab* lished fact. We trust that the result ot this measure .will not have .the effect of reducing shipments from this Colony. Quotations generally for. grain and pro* dnce are unchanged.; Oats: are still ruling from 2s 4d to 2s 6d ; hams *nd bacon, new cure, Bjd all round ; cheese, dullisdto s£d; fresh butter, lid ; salt do, 9d to lOd ; eggs; scarce, 2s 6d ; pota. toes, £8 to £3 10s, according to quality ; onions, from £6 to £7. Poultry ihbws no improvement ; w« quote turkeys, 9a ; ducks, 3s 6d ; geese, 6s ; and fowls, Ss per pair." :
