It it officially notified that the Awahuri Bridge is closed for traffic until further notice. Parliament stands adjourned till tomorrow. We regret to learn of the death, from consumption, last evening, of Mrs Barton, at the early age of 24 years. The deceased lady was the third daughter of Mr Daniel Kitchen, of Wanganui, and will be remembered as having been at one time, with her elder, and even more gifted sister, a prominent member of the Wanganui Harmonic Society Both ladies fell victims to the same wasting and fatal disease. — Chronicle. Advertisement re meeting of shareholders in Soap and Candle Company will appear to-morrow. Says an exchange : — "The Wellington Freethought Association have given the use of their Lyceum on Sundays to a congregation of Presbyterians during the building of a church. Query : " Would the Presbyterians return the compliment under similar circumstances." The dispensation and warrant of co - s t tion for opening the Ruahine Lodge of Freemasons at Woodville has been received. The consecration and instal lation ceremony will probably take place about the middle of next month. A Maori woman died at the Kaipaoi Fative Pa on Thursday, 6th inst named Veta Whataitaua, whose age is claimed to be 108 years, if not more.
