Present — Messrs McEwan, junr. and senr., Stubbs (2), Milverton, and the members of the Board. . , Statements of assets and liabilities of the Board were also read. - The Chairman stated that the audited balance-sheet had not ye b come to hand. A n.umber of questions had been, sent up by the Audit Department ia.j-gference to the balance 'sheet, and these had all been satisfactorily answered, and sent down. The answers referred to had been read at the ordinary meeting of the Board held that day. - In reply to Mr Stubbs, the clKiirmm ■tatei that the .£63 voted to Bunnytboi^ • Road came from a special grant, nob from deferred payment money. . As to why the Board did not spend all the monej coming from the Land Board deferred payments, on the roadß from the property on which the money was received, the chairman could only say that che Board did not adhere to a hard and fast rule; but had to exercise its judgment m expending; moneys ; the Ward m question, he might state, had had its full share of expenditure. Mr McEwan senr., here interjected that he had listened -to the discussion until he was sick of it. He had had experience m his time as chairman of a Road Board, and he knew the style m which the various ratepayers waited on the Board for their requirements, never one thinking whether any money would be wanted or not. In reply to Mr. McE>ran junr., the chairman stated that the audited balancesheet was not to han.i. . ".v It was decided to adjourn tht meeting till they were Received, and, that they should also be published. The Chairniah remarked he would be only too glad to have them published, as * there seemed to be all sorts of erroneous' ideas and mistatements going about circulated for motives which were only too . apparent.
