THE ROAD ACROSS THE RANGES.

From the Examiner we notice that the members of the Pahiatua Road Board met Mr Armstrong, engineer of the Manawatn Road Board on Saturday night, to dispuss matters re tho proposed road over the Tarnrua ranges. The Board was represented by Messrs Davie, Crewe, Farrell, and A very, who heartily ; agreed with the actiou taken by the Manawatu Board, and expressed the willingneiß of the Board to do all m its power to co-operate. It transpired that Mr Beetham had, some time ago, asked the Government to make a trial survey of a road aoross the ranges, and it was reiolved to. ask the Government what had been done, and requesting to be furnished with any details that might be m their possession. Mr Armstrong stated that a road line could be got as far as the foreat reserve, and two routes had been tried from thence to the top of the hill with a grade of something like 50 or 60. One of the members of the Pahiatua Road Board also.Btated thai he had been informed that a surveyor m the district had been to the top of the ranges from this side, and that he believed that a road could be got with a similar grade. The road would come out at Pahiatua by the aide of the hotel.
