A meeting of the Royal Commission of the Colonial- Indian Exhibition was. held to-day, the Prince of Wales, Chairman of Commissioners, presiding. His Royal Highness, m the course of his speech, stated' that the guarantee fund for the exhibition has already reached £418,000. A committee has been formed under the i Chairmanship of the Duke of Abercorn, for the purpose of extending a hospitable reception to visitors, from the Colonies, and a fund was being subscribed to that end, - . Mr Gladstone has issued a manifesto to his constituents m Midlothian, m which he informs them he has receivad conclusive evidence of sympathy with his Iriah policy from America and .the Colonies. He criticises . the discordant views held by thost poHticans who seceded from the Liberal ranks, and urges the concession of Irish demands while England is yet free and strong, instead of yielding hereafter from motives of terror. Mr Gladstone concludes by affirming- the urgent necessity that the House of Commons should decide whether Ireland shall have the raanago- ' ment of her own affairs, and expresses the opinion that it is possible to arrange details.
